I am a seasoned editor and published author with more than a decade's worth of experience working with news organizations, nonprofits, book publishers, fundraising consultancies, and individual writers. I have an MA in literature from the University of New Mexico and a BA in liberal studies from The Evergreen State College, where I first cut my teeth as a copyeditor for the student newspaper. For five years, I worked as a manuscript editor for a university press, where I copyedited and proofread both academic and trade titles, including history, anthropology, archaeology, literary criticism, fiction, poetry, and memoir. I have also done acquisitions and copyediting work for some of the country's most prestigious poetry publishers, including Copper Canyon Press and Narrative magazine.
In addition to having a diverse background in publishing, I'm an experienced grant writer who has developed proposals helping to secure six- and seven-figure grants and investments for nonprofit and for-profit clients. While I can tackle almost any subject area, I have a special affinity for grants for social services (particularly for children and families), microfinance and business lending, and racial equity programs. In recent years, I have also turned more seriously to my own creative writing. Visit my Writing Portfolio to see what I've been sending out into the world! |
